Digital cameras have been dropping in cost for years.  At present you can buy a digital camera with most of the bells and whistles for under $200.  A full featured camera generally costs under $400.  If you still love old fashion photos, you can always bring your digital photos shot with your digital camera to your local film processing lab and print out normal photos.  So if you are expecting for a super simple way to take pictures, choose digital cameras.
